TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi underlined that Tehran will use any possible means to repel enemy aggression, and warned that Tehran's response will inflict heavy losses on attackers.
"We do not desire war or seek an adventure, since our nation is prudent and sensible," Salehi told German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
"We will brilliantly defend ourselves if we come under attack," the Iranian foreign minister stated, adding, "We will defend ourselves by any means, but on our own territory. We will of course suffer injuries, but we will inflict harm on the attackers."
The remarks by Salehi came after intensified threats from Israel that air strikes could be in the offing against Iran. Israeli President Shimon Peres said in November that such action was becoming "more and more likely".
A few days ago Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak once again threatened Iran with "all options," yet ruling out speculations about the possibility of an imminent attack on Iran's nuclear sites.
"We have no intention of acting for the moment...We should not engage in war when it is not necessary, but there may come a time or another when we are forced to face tests," Barak said.
In reply, Iran has warned that it would crush the entire Zionist lands as well as Israeli and US interests worldwide.
Senior Iranian officials described the threats as "foolish" remarks, and warned that friends and allies of the Islamic Revolution would destroy Israel before it can make the slightest military move against Iran.
Also, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) top officials warned the Zionist regime of Iran's crushing response to any act of aggression, saying that an attack on Iran would put an end to Israel's existence.
"If the Zionist regime (of Israel) commits such a mistake, it would mean that it has entered the final days of its existence since the Islamic Republic of Iran is a powerful and strong country which can defend its territorial integrity and interests across the globe, specially in the Middle-East," IRGC Politburo Chief Javani told FNA in November.
Meantime, Muslim nations throughout the world have voiced strong support for Iran, saying that in case of a US or Israeli attack on Iran, they would joint the Iranian front to fight against Israel.
