BAHRAIN: IAA unblocks censored websites

Manama, Jan. 2 (BNA)—Information Affairs Authority (IAA) Press and Publication Acting Director Yussef Mohammed Ismail has reaffirmed IAA commitment to protecting freedom of expression and boosting media openness without permitting encroachment on other people's rights, freedoms and religions or incitement of sectarian divide and hatred.

In this context, the IAA has unblocked registered political societies' websites which have been censored before because of breaching the law, he revealed adding that IAA would address these societies on the need to comply with the kingdom's rules and regulations.He also pointed out a decision by IAA President Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa to set up a specialized legal panel charged with compiling and upgrading laws and legislations pertaining to the press and media field.He expressed hope the new year will open the door wide for the Bahraini youth to tap on their potentials, serve the nation, take part in the development process and eschew sectarianism.
