Culture and Heritage Centre chairman discusses cooperation on restoration projects
Dubai : Juma Al Majid, Chairman of the Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage, has visited the Vatican Museum to discuss cooperation in the field of restoring and photographing manuscripts.
During his visit last week, Al Majid was received by Antonio Paolucci, director of the Vatican Museums, and Cesare Pasini, director of the Vatican library, who hosted a lunch banquet in his honour. He was accompanied by Dr Bassam Daghistani, head of maintenance, treatment and restoration of the manuscript section at the centre.
During the lunch banquet, Al Majid gave a speech about the centre's various activities, and its educational and charitable projects.
The centre's role in manuscript and book restoration works was also discussed, as well as its message based on Al Majid's philosophy to save and preserve books and manuscripts regardless of the author or religion.
They also agreed to commission a study on the centre's concept of joint work with the Vatican.
Dr Daghistani presented during the banquet the centre's previous restoration works, such as in the Endowment Library in Aleppo, Patriarchate of Alexandria, and others.
Following a six-hour tour of the Vatican Library and Museum, Al Majid extended an invitation to Vatican librarians to visit the UAE and inspect works carried out by the centre.
Accompanying Al Majid on the Vatican Museum tour was Cherie Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
