Kuwaitis spend over KD50 a month on calls

KUWAIT: A Kuwaiti citizen spends an average of KD650 on phone bills every year, while a middle-class expatriate living in Kuwait spends KD300 during the same period, according to sources familiar with local cell phone market statistics.
“The cell phone market in Kuwait is valued at nearly KD675 million”, said a source who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity.
He said 75 percent of those expenses are on phone calls, while 23 percent is spent on internet and other information services. Text messaging expenditure dropped to 4 percent, the sources added.
The sources said that even limited income labor forces spend around KD150 annually on phone expenses. These rates put Kuwait among the top spending countries on telecommunications in the world. -Al-Qabas
