OIC foreign ministers convene extraordinary meeting in Jeddah


Tehran, Jan 21, IRNA – Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states convened an extraordinary meeting in Jeddah to examine Iran-Saudi diplomatic row.

Kuwait is the current president of OIC and Kuwaiti First Deputy of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khalid Ahmed as-Sabah presided over the meeting.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi is currently on a visit to Jeddah to attend meeting.

The meeting is being held upon request of Saudi government to review issue of attack on Saudi embassy and consulate in Iran.

The OIC accepted Saudi request promptly, while Palestine request lodged one year ago is yet to be considered.

Palestine had requested for an extraordinary meeting for attack against al-Aqsa Mosque.

Pakistan media said quoting Pakistani diplomatic officials that Pakistan government would initiate good offices for de-escalation between Iran and Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of foreign ministers extraordinary meeting in Jeddah.
